  • Coaches do not need to be in uniform but being dressed similarly to team colors is strongly encouraged.
  • The tournament directors will have a final say on all discrepancies.
  • Cal Ripken rulebook applies, with a few exceptions.
  • We know winning is a lot of fun.  We encourage good sportsmanship and teamwork in a fun and competitive arena while playing at the Hungerford Tournament.  Please try to remember these at all times.
  • If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the tournament directors.
  • We will be updating the WHYBL website on a nightly basis with scores and standings.
  • Batting cages and open grassy nearby areas are available to prepare for each game.  Each team should share the cage as equally as possible.  THERE WILL NO PRE-GAME INFIELD/OUTFIELD PRIOR TO ANY GAME.
  • Bats must be 1.15 BPF or USAA certified.  All -3 bats must be BBCOR certified.  Wood bats are allowed.
  • There are no pitching restrictions.  Coaches should use common sense in order to protect pitchers' arms.
  • The manager is the only person allowed to question a specific rule.  Please do not allow your assistants to question calls made on the field.
  • No ball/strike calls, on field decisions as they relate to safe/out calls, etc. are to be challenged by any manager/coach.  It is the umpire’s discretion to remove a player/coach from the game if these calls are challenged.  This includes what we call “chirping” from the dugout.  “Chirping” is grumbling about plays/calls from the dugout loud enough for the umpire to hear.
  • If a manager wishes to clarify a call based upon Cal Ripken rules, the manager must call time out after the play and politely ask the umpire about the call/ruling.  Regardless of the outcome, the manager must accept that decision and not further challenge the umpire.
  • Managers/coaches are also responsible for the conduct of their players and parents. Anyone who is disrespectful to the umpire or any opposing player or coach should be removed from the game or the stands.  The umpire has the ability to make that decision as well.
  • Please have your parents and supporters understand that abuse of another teams coaches, players or umpires will not be tolerated. If this happens they may be asked to leave the grounds.
  • A game is official at 6 innings unless the home team is ahead after 5 ½ innings.  There will be a 10 run mercy rule on or after 3 ½ or 4 innings.
  • No slash bunting.
  • Slide or avoid. No intentional running over a player or attempting to injure another player.  If this occurs, the runner will be ejected from the game.
  • Balks will be called at all times.  This will happen from pitch #1.
  • Dropped 3rd strike is in effect.
  • RE-ENTRY RULE: Only designated starters may re-enter the game.  A starter may re-enter the game once and must bat in the same spot of the lineup that he was originally batting in.  If a team chooses to bat its entire lineup, all players are considered starters and therefore can change positions at any time.
  • EXTRA-HITTER RULE: A team may have 10 players in the batting order.  9 play positions in the field, and one is the “extra-hitter”.
    • Extra-hitters can play the field.
    • The extra-hitter may bat anywhere in the batting order.
    • The extra-hitter feature may not be removed during the course of the game.  If the player needs to be removed from the game, his vacant spot in the batting order will result in an out.
    • Just because one team uses the EH does not mean the opposing team is required to use it.  The EH feature is OPTIONAL.
    • A team may choose to bat its entire lineup.  If a player needs to be removed from the game, his vacant spot in the batting order will result in an out.
  • DH RULE: A team can elect to use one DH for any player in the lineup. The DH feature is also OPTIONAL.
  • In the case of weather and a tight schedule, the tournament directors reserve the right to modify or shorten the tournament.
  • YOU MUST BE COVERED BY YOUR TEAM OR LEAGUE INSURANCE POLICY TO PARTICIPATE IN OUT OF TOWN TOURNAMENTS.
  • For seeding purposes for the playoffs, tiebreakers will be decided as follows:
    • 1. Wins.
    • 2. Head-to-head.
    • 3. Runs allowed.
    • 4. Runs scored.
    • 5. Coin flip.
